Oxytocin is a protein made in the brain of most mammals. It is
known as the ‘social’ chemical. “Research has indicated that oxytocin may also
be associated with the ability of humans to ‘bond’ with others in
psychologically healthy and meaningful relationships. (oxytocin and oxytocic
hormones). While it is used to make you happier, it also plays an important
part in reproduction. It also causes behavior in mammals that can lead to
mating. When it is secreted in the brain, it functions in activities vital to
birth and milk production and plays an important role in the survival of
species. It also plays a social part in reproduction. It is what causes a bond
between a mother and her baby. It can cause other animals to care for their infant
or build a nest for them. “One of the ways we get (oxytocin) is generosity, acts
of kindness. Giving of your time and energy with no expectation of return. Money
doesn’t count.” (Are human beings biologically designed to be good)Although
oxytocin is a happy chemical that makes you fell love and kindness, new
research shows it also causes emotional pain and stress. It appears to be the
reason for stressful social situations, such as being bullied or tormented by a
boss. Marla Paul said, “It can reverberate long past events to trigger fear and
anxiety in the future.” (Study Finds Oxytocin Strengths Memories) If you have a
traumatizing experience in your childhood, oxytocin could bring the memory back
when you are an adult, causing you to feel fear and anxiety. This can cause
chronic social stress, which is one of the leading causes of serious anxiety
and depression. Positive social interactions will cause oxytocin to enhance
your emotional health, but negative interactions can cause oxytocin to make you
depressed.
